The journey that led me to chiropractic…
Back in high school about three weeks into the football season, my coach asked me to start as wide receiver for the game that week! I was pumped to say the least and really ramped up my practicing. The next day I was running a route across the middle of the field and pretty much had my head ripped off! Big Hit! Feeling a little dizzy and probably with a minor concussion, I finished practice but developed a pretty bad headache. The next day I had a headache again and it got worse if I tried to exert myself. For two weeks this went on and I was trying about anything to get rid of it. I couldn’t practice let alone play in a game. My mother suggested that we try the chiropractor.
That was my start into the chiropractic journey. I had never been to the chiropractor and was willing to try anything at that point. I went to my appointment and remember to this day when he adjusted my neck. The headache went away almost immediately! The next day I could run! I was back in action and ready to go for the game that Friday night!
Since then I have used chiropractic through four years of Track at Black Hills State University, Adventure Racing in the Pathfinder Challenge for Palmer College of Chiropractic and many half marathons, marathons, triathlons, and road races over the years to help keep myself in tip top condition.

Why I Chose Chiropractic
I always tell people that I chose chiropractic as a profession because I asked too many questions. At the end of my 4th year of undergraduate studies I was trying to figure out what to do with my life. I considered Medical, Dental, and Chiropractic. With the experience that I had with chiropractic through my high school and college athletic careers, I was really into the concept of the body healing itself naturally without using drugs. Come on, when my knees hurt it was not because of a shortage of Ibuprofen in my system! The question was, “How do we get the body to feel better without the use of drugs?” That line of questioning can be applied to just about every health issue we have.
I came to the conclusion that many problems in the body are structural and movement based (mechanical). It did not stand to reason that chemistry could fix mechanical issues. Drugs could create the perception that the symptoms would be gone, but the actual fix for the problem was not found in chemicals. Structural correction made sense to me. The nervous system controls the body and the structure protects it and helps it function. To this day helping people correct their structure so that their bodies (nervous systems) heal themselves is what I love to do!
On a Personal Note…
I grew up and went to Bon Homme High School in Tyndall, SD, graduating in 1990. From there I went to South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD and Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD working toward a double major in Biology and Chemistry with a Minor in Physics. At the end of my 4th year of school I decided that I would go on to chiropractic school. I chose Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa because of Palmer’s great reputation and solid education.
I have been married to my lovely wife, Treese since 2002. She has walked with me through undergraduate and chiropractic school. We are living our dream of raising our children in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We have three children, Trace, Carlie Jean and Taylen. We are very active and love outdoor activities. Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, and skiing are all activities we love to do.
